Forest School

Forest School at Chesterton

At Chesterton our forest school area is used to enhance the curriculum as well as offer nurture support and additional social and emotional opportunities for the development of personal growth, teamwork and friendship.

Each year group spends around 6 weeks enjoying Forest School, focussing on key skills, exploration and embedding curriculum within real experience.  Nursery and Reception class enjoy weekly visits. Activities are planned to develop curriculum knowledge as well as developing teamwork, self confidence, risk taking, friendship, responsibility, independence and trust. Every class ends their forest school unit with a celebratory campfire, full of songs, games and fun!

Independent activities may include, den building, bug hunting, drawing, painting, clay faces, art, group games, tree climbing and lots of imagination!

Nurture Provision

In addition to whole class sessions Chesterton offers a small group nurture session where children have the opportunity to take part in specific nurture based tasks and activities while building self esteem, emotional literacy, independence, confidence and team skills.
