Curriculum and Teaching and Learning

For further information for a specific class visit the class pages under the Parents section of our website

We believe that the purpose of education is to build character and narrow social injustice for our pupils, broadening their horizons by taking them beyond the everyday! Through our curriculum, the children achieve their full potential and acquire the concepts, knowledge, skills and attitudes that equip them for life in a fast changing world.  Our curriculum is designed to achieve high standards of teaching and learning, through a relevant, challenging and imaginative program. This includes a range of educational experiences, allowing the children to apply their knowledge in a range of situations. Our child centred curriculum focuses on the development of children; intellectually, emotionally, socially, physically and morally.  Enabling them to reach their full potential, both now and in the future.

Our school uses the ‘Essential Letters and Sounds' phonics programme from Nursery to Year 2. When children are beginning to read, they are provided with books from the school reading scheme. These books enable the children to practise the phonics they are learning in class. As reading skills develop, children are encouraged to read widely across a range of fiction, non-fiction and poetry.
