Hello!
Welcome to Year 2. We have got off to great start so far this term, learning all about exercise and how it keeps our bodies healthy.
In Maths we have been learning about number and place value, looking at 2 digit numbers.
In English we have learnt a crazy story called 'The Papaya that Spoke!' Ask your children and see if they can remember what happens in it.
In our curriculum topic we are learning all about plants. We went on a learning walk around the school and looked at all of the beautiful flowers and plants that grow all around us.
This afternoon we are going to plant our own herb garden and try to grow some flowers!
Have a fabulous week
Mr Tew
Where Year 1 had not been completed in full, we have discovered a number of gaps in children's phonic knowledge going into Year 2.
We are working really hard to address these gaps but would be incredibly grateful if you could support us to help your children practise reading and writing the sounds at home.
Attached below are the phonic mats for phase 2, 3, and 5. Pupils entering Year 2 should have a solid understanding of these sounds.
I have also added the common exception words for Years 1 and 2. These are words which need to be learnt by sight as they may not fit into the phonic patterns.
Thank you for supporting your children at home. It truly is appreciated.
Mr Tew
Please see below for work from the previous academic year.
Hello everyone,
Below are some recommendations of different educational apps you could try. I will keep adding to the list as I find more of them.
Hope you are well and staying safe,
Miss Taylor
Hello everyone,
I hope you had a lovely Easter full of fun, laughter and lots of chocolate! I'll now be putting up work in the same way I did before the Easter holidays, in each week's folder there will be English, Maths and Curriculum tasks to do every day as well as some suggestions for Reading and Spelling work all on one document for each day. I will also be putting up some extra reading tasks to do each week and the link to some phonics lessons on Youtube.
Please don't worry if you can't get though everything, just have a go and do your best!
Keep taking pictures of what you've been up to, I can't wait to see them when we're back in school.
Take care and keep safe,
Miss Taylor
Hello everyone,
This is the class page for Year 2 where I will be posting daily work for the children to complete. There will be English, Maths and Curriculum tasks every day which I will put on the same document labelled with the date. I would also like the children to be reading at home at least once a day for as long as possible (which you can record in their reading records), and to be practicing their spellings.
The spellings the children should be practicing can be found either in the link below(Year 2 common exception words) or in the front cover of their green exercise book if they have one.
I have also added the details below for you to access the real PE scheme and resources that we use in school.
As the week goes on I will also post any links I can find for useful websites or activities which may interest the children in their spare time, so please check regularly for updates.
It would be lovely for the children to be able to share what they have been doing at home when we are back in school so please ask them to do their work in their exercise books or a notebook (lots of pictures would be great too!).
Many thanks,
Miss Taylor
