Look at the range of paintings of boats in the pdf document. What can you see? What is happening?

Who do you think the boats might belong to? Where are they going? Why? What do you notice about the boats?

Make a mind map of your ideas.

Choose your favourite boat painting. Close your eyes and imagine you are stepping into the painting. What might you see around you? What might you hear, touch or taste?

Write a sentence to explain what it is like to be in the painting.

The Herring Net

I can taste the salty sea water as it splashes me.

I can smell the seaweed on the wet ropes.

I can hear the net dragging against the boat as we pull in the fish.

I can feel the freezing rain drops on my face.

I can see rolling waves getting bigger and bigger.

You can draw a copy of the painting underneath your writing to show the picture you are describing.
